Spectroscopy (greek „Ghost seeing“) is the interaction of light and matter. The literal translation is quite appropiate, because with the use of these techniques, not the real molecules/atoms can be seen, but only their images and „shadows“ they produce. The result is a chart, where energy, time, frequency,…. are related, this we call a spectrum. weiterlesen...

wow… big talents in our group
PhD defense Batirtze Prats-Mateu
It´s done. Yesterday Bati gave an excellent talk on „Tip in-light on: Raman and AFM studies of biological materials“ and mastered very good all questions. CONGRATULATION and all the best for the future. Also the other group member did a very good job by providing a really good doctoral hat and a nice surprise.
1st Wood Nanotechnology Conference
Happy to attend the first Wood Nanotechnology Conference from 2nd to 5th of September in Switzerland. The Monte Verità Conference Centre was a wonderful venue for a conference full of very interesting and excellent talks.

News on heartwood formation
New insights into heartwood formation of pine published in Tree physiology: Martin Felhofer, Batirtze Prats-Mateu, Peter Bock, Notburga Gierlinger; Antifungal stilbene impregnation: transport and distribution on the micron-level, Tree Physiology, https://doi.org/10.1093/treephys/tpy073
Kinderuni 2018
Unmixing hyperspectral Raman images: which method to choose and new insights?
This questions and more we answered in our newly published paper in Plant methods by analysing spruce wood and Arabidopsis with three different unmixing methods (VCA, NMF and MCR-ALS): Multivariate unmixing approaches on Raman images of plant cell walls: new insights or overinterpretation of results? by Batirtze Prats-Mateu Martin Felhofer, Anna de Juan and Notburga Gierlinger
