One PhD student and one postdoctoral researcher position are currently available to reveal the design secrets of seed coats on the micro-and nanoscale within the ERC-project „Scattering and tapping on soft-hard-open nuts„.
The candidates should have a strong background in plant biology, chemistry and/or physics and be highly motivated to work interdisciplinary in the bionami-team (bionami.at). Experiences in sample preparation methods (microtomy), microspectroscopy (FT-IR, Raman) and multivariate data analysis, Atomic force microscopy, Electron microscopy are very welcome, but not mandatory. We are looking for ambitions and self-motivated candidates to work on this challenging research questions in the excellently equipped Biophysics labs. Cutting-edge instrumentation for sample preparation (cryo-microtomy, ultra-microtomy..) and characterization of structure, chemistry and mechanics on the micro- and nanoscale (e.g. Confocal Raman microscope optimized for high resolution imaging, several AFMs, FT-IR microscopy, Fluorescence microscopy, electron microscopy,…) are waiting for curious and talented researchers, who will be well supported by the experienced bionami-team.
